I have always wanted a VW trike from the 70's, around here most bikers on VW style trikes are either dikes or crippled. The conversions around here are usually the Honda Goldwing with the grey haired christian type dude.

Awww... c'mon guys. In '06 I was hitting bike weeks and setting up as a vendor, selling sterling silver jewelry. I met a lot of folks on trikes, mostly older folks with various medical problems and disabled vets. The one thing they all had in common was they were unwilling to give up riding bikes, even if it meant three wheels instead of two.
Ride till ya rot!

My bike was almost turned into a trike....Well the fork was but my buddy didn't want to use it. Now with that being said he actually builds his trikes from the ground up doesn't use motorcycle frames or anything like that. Just the forks...and only then not very often unless a customer requests them.
Heres a picture of one that he designed and is their flag ship model until the finish the redesign they are currently building.
It has a vortec v6 out of a blazer. everything is done by hand except for back fender. They designed it and have them made by a fiberglass place.
