I finally finished the poor old thing up. 14 months ago I picked up a 73 Z1 for nothing. It was eather take it home or watch it go to the scrap yard. Through the course of it's life it has been brutleized, cannibalized, well used and abused. In general just plain thrashed. After all that it was shoved into the barn and forgot about for fifteen years. The engine was not froze up but during it's resurrection I discoverd a ring fragment and a cam chain buffer in the oil pan. After I tore it down I discoverd thoes atrocities had been fixed. They had left the trash in the oil pan. All the gears and bearings were in good shape. The top end was another story. I fixed that with a top end rebuild. All my pictures and progress can be seen by clicking on the link s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm10/hx35w/

A very nice job. I have recently acquired a 1975 Z1B that I am restoring. Like you, I got it for essentially free. It will be the '75 I sold in in 1982 with great regret. In similar shape to yours, very neglected and abused. A mess.

But I know this bike like a brother, so it will be very straight forward, mechanically. What has bothered me has been the prospect of dealing with the VIN sticker when refinishing the frame, and you have handled that beautifully.

Could you elaborate in more detail on how you used photoshop and then finished off the new sticker to mimic the plastic laminated original? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks!
