Hello all - another NEWBIE here!

I've been on motorcycles since my 12th birthday, when my father gave me his '74 Bultaco Alpina 350. I couldn't kick it over, or lift it up when I fell, but learned to ride with that monster. That lead to my first race bike shortly after, then onto racing minis schoolboy, novice, amateur and expert classes (even held my AMA Pro License for a few years in the late '90s)

Now I'm an old man at 33, and still love hammering motos at the track, but really enjoy street riding too. Add to that I have always done things a bit against the grain... maybe due to the fact that my career is in the art field, I love unique things. I built a pretty bad ass street legal supermoto bike out of an '87 XL600, but that's for another forum.

Anyhow, I'm sure that most of you can agree that nothing is better than not seeing another bike like your's on the road. That's my (long winded) inspiration behind this project:

Well I just picked this up the other day. Paid under $2k for her, she runs well, looks pretty damn clean (especially for the price). Actual mileage is just over 13,000. This '80 Z1R has had a coat or 2 of paint on it through the years, but was fairly well kept, don't ya think?

Here's my plan, and I welcome all comments or suggestions from you veteran's of the KZ world:

I'd like to keep the aesthetics that make a Z1R.. a Z1R, but I would like to upgrade a few performance parts like: Moriwaki exhaust, Dyna Ignition and Coils, new K&N pods, oil cooler with steel braided plumbing, Rizoma bars and barend mirrors, Ohlin's shocks (gotta love the piggy backed reservoirs), upgrade brake components. I would like to get her running like an S.O.B, then worry about the paint.

Holy Kaw! Thanks for the responses! I appreciate all your input. So, she's powered by a '77 'A', huh? Could it just be the cases/block, or does it give all signs that the entire powerplant is from a KZA?

I will have to make sure to order parts for the '77.

Tell me more... I am intrigued!

And thanks for the warm welcome!
