so i finally made the second and final payment on my new 77 kz650 B. I managed to coax her to life just enough to limp on back to the garage where i will begin the restore.

One thing that i notice on the way back, is an interesting red light that is completely seperate from the rest of the indicators and instrument panal. Its a round red circle about the size of a dime, clamped onto the handlebars on the lower-left side of the handlebar clamps. Nomatter what i did, it would not light up. Once i reached the shop, i asked my friend if he knew what it was for. He explained that during the 1970's, japanese law forced all motorcycle manufacturers, and some car manufacturers, to install a warning light to indicate when you're breaking the national speed limit of 80 kph. So apparently, this is a stock instrument and it should light up if i go over 80kph. I thought it was a cool little unique thing from the past, and probably somewhat rare today. Keep in mind this is a japanese made and sold kz650. I'm curious if anyone of you have seen or heard of this before? I will post some pics very soon once i have time to go get my camera.

My 1975 Z2 has that warning light but it is on top the headlight shell. It is a dummy now as the PO removed the wiring...I'm still leaving it in, though :) I have seen that accessory warning light attached to the handlebars on a 1978 Z750(4).
