There is a neat trick you can use if you wanted a long wheel base when you hardtail it and you don't have a frame jig. You can use your stock swingarm and run an set of nuts and a bolt through where the axle plates to keep them even in relation to each other. Then cut both legs about 1/2 way. Now you weld some scrap metal to lengthen the swingarm to your final position (this doesn't have to be pretty). Then you can weld new stock to the top and bottom of the axle plates and the frame to create your new rear section. Finally you cut away whats left of the swingarm leaving your new stock and the original axle plates.

As far as a springer goes, any chopper shop can order one or you can look on Ebay. I found one for my last chopper project there. The fabrication to use a Harley front end on my bike appears to be just machining the frame neck to accept a pair of bearing cups. I haven't taken the front end that I'm planning on using off of my Sportster yet for a final check. I also need to pick up a pair of bearing cups.

I'm interested in hearing more about the conversion bearings. That might save me some machining time.

Thanks, thats exactly how I'm going to do my rear section. I've been puzzling over it for a while, sounds like that'll work good. I think I'll wait on the springer front end, weather's getting nicer all the time!

It sounds like you got this taken care of, but for future reference, www.mcmaster.com probably has the bearing you need in packs of 10 or so.

Thought I'd give you an updated pic of my progress so far.

I'm about $3 grand in right now, plus countless hours of labour.

Looks good! My KZ is sitting right now because of work and my Sportster. I finally got around to pulling the front end off of the Sportster and am putting a wide glide front end on it. I did get a set of fork boots to use if I decide to use the stock front end. That's still up in the air. I'm going to try and sand blast the front wheel to prep it for paint. It fell off the shelf and scratched up all the work I had already done. Here's a pic of what the wheels look like.

Looking good man, she's coming along. I don't have any other toys, so this bike is my first priority.

Here are some vids from last night (@ 11:45pm - F U neighbors! LOL). Had it fired up yesterday after a quick throw together of the wiring harness. Today's task is to get it wired properly.
