Okay well I am pretty new to motorcycles and working on them yet I am learning a lot as I go, thanks to trial and error and this site!!!!! I bought a 1980 KZ750 H1 ltd this past summer! It was running pretty rough, and pretty hard looking. My first project was to figure out what was going on with the motor it sounded horrible and it was leaking fuel all over as well!! Well the fuel leak was the petcock!! easy fix.... now the motor on the other hand I started by checking the valve clearances and they deffinately needed adjusted re shimmed and still running crappy.... So like I should have done first I checked the compression the readings werent terrible but they were all very different high low etc..... So I decided to change the piston rings also while checking the compression I found a valve leak on the exhaust side..... So Changed rings all valve (two bent exhaust valves) gaskets, seals, cam chain adjuster (changed to manual) got the motor all back together and still running poor running better yet poor took it out for a spin found that one of the cylendars wasnt firing untill about 7000 rpm then shot me down the road so changed plugs wires checked coil found that the one cylindar was wayyyy rich so obviously a carb issue I had cleaned the carbs up at this point already changed float valves set float levels etc.... Remember not very mechanical my father in law is a mechanic for GM has been for years and thanks to him for he was the brains in all of this!!!!! So after changing all that still running on 3 cylindars studied the diagram of the carbs and realized there was a needle jet completely missing on the number two carb allowing the fuel to flow freely!!!!! Online they wanted like 35 plus shipping the dealer wanted like fifty and there was a rinky dink shop in a small town near where I lived who had a set of carbs and he sold me the jet for a dollar!!!!! Stuck her in started her up and boom was running on all four!!!! Any ways I have changed the sprockets chain reappolstered the seat cleaned the piss out of it lower handlebars and now about two weeks ago started a new project with it I saw a thread in the projects section here I think his name is BadBoie did some customizing of his bike which is the same year model as my bike..... so I took the idea of the Z1 tail piece from him and the longer shocks added a cafe fairing got my tank, sidecovers, tailpiece professionally painted which I am thourouly impressed with added new taillight, painted wheels and calipers...... I am waiting on the clubman handlebars, The new Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust, the small barend mirrors, and the custom seat and will be finished for now.... I am hoping to get on some rearsets but may be a minute for I am going on about 1500 plus dollars in the last two weeks I have already spent..... I will post some pics if I can from when I got the bike to now here in the next couple of days.........

Very nice! I think you're selling yourself short on how mechanically-minded you are. Your dad's probably taught you more than you know (not sure if that's possible).

Anyways, the bike looks to be shaping up nicely. I especially like the location of your front signals. Be sure to keep us up to date. Perhaps in turn you'll inspire others (gonna change my signals, )

Hey thanks! Yea the front signals were kind of an issue because I wasnt sure where to put them...... I ended up putting them there on the frame where the reflectors used to be...... went to the parts store and found some rubber grommets and drilled the hole out and ran some wire pretty easy actually.......
