KZ1100 drag roller with a bright future!

I picked this drag roller up in Phoenix last week, and brought it home to Colorado.

It started life as a 1981 KZ1100-B1, and has been is it's present configuration for 10 years or so.

I managed to find a 1992 Police engine, ready to drop in while I make a better plan.

If anyone here has KZ drag experience with more than 1150 cc's, I'd like to hear from you...maybe you can save me some grief down the road.

Not really trying to 'figure out' anything, just curious what set-up others are running with a minimum of hassle.

I'm much closer to Pueblo than Denver, and will probably spend most of my testing time there.

How big do u plan on going? Are u aware of the week spots in that motor?
Mostly just the crank thrust bearings, crank twisting, and clutch basket failure.
This may be helpfull.

It depends on how quick you want to go. You'll have to totaly honest with yourself!
Do you want to run any boost or motor only? Self starting or remote starter? Do you want a bike you can race for the entire with little maintenance or a bike that requires major maintenance every few races?
If you want to build a bracket bike and be competitive you can do that with a 1015cc engine, stock head with drop in cams, shim on top cam followers, forged 10.5 to 1 pistons, welded crank, reworked clutch basket, billet ourput second gear and stock transmission and self staring. Depending on how much you and the bike weigh, and how good the chassis hooks, you'll be able to run in the low 11 second range all day long and keep the engine together all season.

If you really need to go quicker the skys the limit (no pun intended), but the cost goes up quickly.
You'll be somewhat limited by the small rear tire but you can still build an engine for the small tire chassis that will get you into the 8 sec zone but it's expensive.
My best recommendation is to make sure you know what you want to accomplish before you start on the motor. It feels good to go quick and fast but I've seen so many riders get burnt out by trying to be the fastest and quickest bike on the track, never winning any races and constantly working on their bike. REMEMBER, IT'S A BRACKET RACE,IT'S THE RIDER THAT WINS THE RACE. CONSISTANCY IS THE SECRET!
Good luck.

Thanks guys!

My stock 1000 Police engine arrived from California aboard a freight truck yesterday.

Once I have a chance to sort everything out, I'll check back in with my proposed engine project, and see if it passes muster.

Thanks to all.

Well said KruZer! He knows of what he speaks. Consistency...consistency...consistency! Remember that word if you want to win! Lots harder to do then it sounds though. Fast is fun but it won't win races like consistency will. Even the pros will tell you...it's better to be consistent then fast.

Yeah, I heard that!

Thanks guys!
