While u are at it u should reinforce the frame.
U have firmed up the front and rear. Now the bike will flex in the frame. The neck down to the seat. There are lots of posts on this. if u are interested i can help piont u to some.If u look at what Kawi did with latter models, GPZ,ZRX.it will put u on the right track.
Nows the time. and we know how u just love the modify things dont we.lol.
Great job man.

I have some templates cut out. Haven't had time to cut the metal out. I guess I'm waiting to move a few cars so I can get this thing closer to our TIG machine which is stationary in our fabrication area. I really hate mig welders. I always get splatter in my shoe and it sucks. I'm all for seeing what sort of reinforcements you have to show though so post up some pics. These are a few that I've seen

Thats what i'm talking about. You got it bro.
U have taken the flimsy front and rear end off, like i did. now my bike flexes in the middle. i have some of that braceing. You can see what i have done in my project pics.i would like to add the rest of the stuff that that A Magic site has done. I just need a brace from the front vetical tubes to the front horizantal tubes. Then i need more in front of the seat area. How is your chain to frame clearance? what size offset front sprocket did u use?

I have no chain or any sprockets at this point. Bike had no chain. I still have to sort it all out. I have whatever sprocket and cush drive is on that rear wheel but need new wheels since they're all bent up. Rear wheel is 6.25" wide with a 200 on it. I guess I'm gonna get 1000 wheels since that's the susp I have but I dunno. I don't have a ton of bike stuff laying around and don't have a ton of money to buy lots of stuff to try. And also have no clue what I'm doing but everything seems to just fit on this thing so I'm just gonna roll with it. I can't wait till it's time to really start making thing happen. I'm sure I'm gonna pick your brain some more and I really appreciate your advice. I'll make some extra braces and send you a set.

clean those wheels up and use them they look like pm wheels and they should be super light.lighter than stock gsxr wheels those are awesome wheels. if the rims are bent you can get them straightened.

They are RC Components. I got a quote to get them fixed of 320 from frame straight. I just think they are ugly as hell and would rather trade for stock wheels or sell them and buy stock wheels.

I hope u don’t mean u want stock kz rims? that project deserves some 17" wheels. zx7 has 6" rears for a 200 tire. a zx9 looks the same and u could use your speedo cable with a slight mod.
If u want a 200 on the back there are a few options, but the zx7 looking rim matches a lot of others. The zx7 is narrower in the center than others.
Were hear to help. just holler.B)

Rayshake,
Been so busy this one got by me...my bad.
First off: after reading your first post on this thread it took the December chill right out of the old bones. The part about picking up your bike and then realizing that this is your bike...very cool. And yes, you are amongst those who understand (and share!) your passion about your motorcycle.
Next: this is my kinda build! Drive on! I love what you're doing.
Lastly: If you're doing this in "one day" a week...holy smokin' guacamole you have some mad skills! Again, drive on!

Specating happily,
-KR:)

Have to agree with the others, stock KZ rims would be ok but as I see more of how this project is coming along, naw go for it, she deserves more than that.

"I'm learning quite a bit working on it so that's awesome."

Uh oh, sounds to me like old rayshake has been bitten by the KZ bug... Kiss the wife goodbye, see her in about 10 years...

Yup, I can't even think about how much I've learned in stripping these old girls down. I mean shit, split cases, are you friggin kidding me! Degreeing Camshafts  (studying data and working on write up know), no freaking way... Tuning and changing carb jets

TDC, BDC, Valve lift, lobe center, intake/exhaust opens/closes, Cam duration, valve lash, bore and stroke, advance/retarding, engine torque, BHP @ RPM, rake, damping, rebound etc....

:S Previously, WTF does all that mean, I'm way over my head.... I know now!

Learning and educating the mind is power and yes, it is AWESOME!

Now with all this said, more pictures damn it!

when it comes time to choose a front sprocket, there is a lot of good advice to be had here.
u can go 3/8" offset with an o-ring chain. Isn’t that right OMR.
i went 5/8 offset with no o-rings. i would need more clearance work to allow for an O-ring chain. But it can be done. U need to heat the frame tube on the inside and squeeze it with a large C clamp, very easy. Then u need to grind the inner peg mounts, and clearance the sprocket cover. That’s it mostly.
If u go 1/2", or 3/8 u just need to do less clearance work. But i think if u want a 200 tire , u should do the maximum clearance. This will make it easier to center the rim under the bike.

"u can go 3/8" offset with an o-ring chain. Isn’t that right OMR."

Nope, 13.5mm (slightly >1/2") offset to be correct!

I have a 180 tire on now and I have plenty of clearance from chain to tire, ~ 3/8-1/2", so a 200 may just squeeze in.

As Mark mentioned, it's the frame chain clearance that's the biggest problem in these conversions. I was lucky for I just barely made it with 1/8" clearance to the frame. I'm using an O-ring chain.

Edit: Almost forgot, you will need to modify your clutch/sprocket cover as well... Damn I love aluminum work!

OMR, Did u have to do any frame clearance work at all?
I just assumed that with the o-ring, that u would have ended up where i am(for frame clearance) without the rings.
