Sportster tank on a 1982 Kawasaki 440 was created by ojsaki
Hello everyone,
I was curious, I hava an older (not sure of the year, maybe 80's??) sportster tank I want to put on my 1982 kawasaki 440 ltd. I am curious though, my 440 petcock has a vaccum line where the sportster petcock doesn't. So I guess what I am asking is does the vaccum line have to be hooked up, what happens if it is not hooked up? Would the gas not travel out of the tank? Would something sieze up???... I was talking to one guy who said to just cut the petcock off the 440 and weld it onto the sportster tank. Short of doing that do I have any other options.
Thanks for the help, it is appreciated!

just cap off the vacuam port on the carb's and you will be able to use the hd petcock no problem.

Maybe a stupid question, but should I just plug it with silicone.... Or what would be best for sealing it off long term, or permently?
Thanks!!!

also I was curious, what is the purpose of the vaccum line if I can just seal it off.... Or does the harley petcock have some sort of an internal vaccum... thanks again

the harley petcock is manual and the kawi petcock is vacuam operated all you have to do with the vacum pot is cap it off with a rubber vacuam cap that you can buy at any auto parts place.
