i am also in the middle of rebuilding a 1982 kz750E i have a 4-1 that is getting sent to Jet Hot, they do all kinds of colors, and we use it on our porshce headers of the race track, its a ceramic coating that reduces the heat comeing off of the pipes, you can have a quote done and they send you all kinds of info, think i was quoted 180 plus shipping, bike looks great, question for you.... powder coat or paint for the frame? im tryn to decide

Hi, I am in Sweden so I will see if I can find firms doing similar treatment here. I never stripped the frame and painted it, only paited rusted areas. My experience is that You get a good finish with paint but as I understand it powdercoating is much more durable. Have no experience though.

yea that would be one hell of a shipping bill, bike looks great though, my last owners girlfriend thought it would be a good idea to sand the paint on mine..... just more work for me

I am painting the tank and covers though, racecar red with a white stripe. Hopefully it will be ok. I am not after a full restoration, just a mechanical rebuild and a comfortable ok looking bike that can be trusted for longer rides.

Man, the clean-up is really coming along nice. Excellent work. The pipe: I've always been a fan of jet-hot coating (out of Oklahoma)...probably set you back around $150; but the black heat-wrap (fiber tape) has been growing on me lately. Sort of looks racey, yet old-school; combine that with the stripe paint you suggested and man, I think you're going to have a nice ride.

Very, very nice! I like that a lot! I was just complaining to a friend the other day that it seems like the HD-poser crowd is starting to migrate to the Japanese "streetfighter" bikes and it sucks. These guys come along and drop huge cash on a bike that (1)will never get ridden, (2)has some cool parts, (3)is for the most part a disfunctional sled that has (4)become a trailer queen. I miss the days of a guy making an 'old school' UJM into his bike and doing it with a budget that is REASONABLE.
To me: this (your bike) is quality work because of the thought that went into it, the attention to detail, and the 'real world' by-God-I'm-gonna-ride-this-bike nature of the build. Great job! Keep those pics comin'!
