Happy Independence Day everyone!
Well the BBQ and fireworks are washed out, little one sick with 104 temp so what's a guy to do?
Take apart my bone stock 79 KZ650b. Owned for the past 10 years and only put gas, oil, and plugs into her with the occasional squirt of air into the tires.
I've been spending my riding time on the back of a 2001 ZRX so this jewel would sit washed and parked under the cover except for a bi-annual scoot around the neighborhood.

Anyway, I always wanted to make a streetfighter out of her and I guess rather than just throwing a set of points and a new battery in I figured what the heck. I'll pray that time is on my side and I'll get to finish her off as she deserves. I will try to post some photos as things progress. Wish me well and expect that I will be tapping into the font of knowledge contained within this board as I am sure to run into things I had not anticipated not the least of which are the newly noted fork dust covers that came apart in my hands.
Be well all, be chatting more soon.

Well campers I will try to keep a blow by blow of how things are going. For your entertainment and as a log for myself.
So today I ordered the Dyna-S Electronic Ignition conversion kit. Haven't decided if I will swap out the coils yet.
Removed the tank, exhaust, engine guards, front fender, rear tail, rear pegs. It's been a lot of years since I've done any serious mechanical work of my own. Feels good, I think my BP is down at least 20 points.
I'm gonna shoot some digital photos tonight to help me remember where things go, or where they'd been.
I'll post some if they seem worth while.
Until the next episode.........

The Rex is one bad ass piece of machinery isn't it.
Why did you get rid of yours? if I may ask.
Mine is mildly modded.
Akrapovic Full Exhaust C/F can.
Ivan's Jet kit.
Corbin Gunfighter seat w/ Smuggler cowl.
Dyno @ 135 RWHP
