1. prep right - media blast if possible
2. oven bake the parts. Dont tell the wife, but bake the painted items by the directions on the can (I think its 300* for 20 minutes, but its been a while). It will stink a little bit
the oven baking really gets the paint cured and resilient.

I used Duplicolor High Temp for Exhaust Pipes. Your choice of color is Black or Silver. I didn't bake the pipes before I installed them. I guess they'll get baked when I run the motor.

Here's yet one more option.
Eastwood sells this exhaust manifold paint: www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=733&itemType=PRODUCT
I used it on a Honda 750. Lasts a long time. I sand blasted the header first. Then I just painted the stuff on with a brush. It flowed out real well. Then I hung it up over a kerosene heater to help it cure.
It's kinda unique color too. You'll be the only one on the block with a cast iron 4 into 1.
But nowadays, I just use BBQ black. I just make a semi-annual routine out of scrubbing down the down pipes with beartex, and spray painting them. I just use rags to mask off areas as I go. I also scrub out them rusty areas between the ears of those exhaust rings, then dab some high temp silver in with a Q-tip.

to mirror and add. I've used the Duplicolor Ceramic with great results and longevity. the trick is 2 fold:
1. prep right - media blast if possible
2. oven bake the parts. Dont tell the wife, but bake the painted items by the directions on the can (I think its 300* for 20 minutes, but its been a while). It will stink a little bit
the oven baking really gets the paint cured and resilient.
My can says "300 for 20 min, 400 for 20 min, 500 for 20 min."
And if you can fit your pipes in the oven, you've got a bigger oven than I do.
