First day with my KZ1000 was created by JoeK
:woohoo: It's my first day with my new 1977 KZ1000, I've been riding about 6 years, (68,000 miles) mostly Orange County commuting. First on a 91 Nighthawk 750 (sold) and now on my 2004 Yamaha FZ1.
I just bought this KZ1000 for a project and weekend rider. I would have loved this bike back in 77 as a high school senior. It's pretty clean but needs some work. Hoping to find some people around OC to learn from and share interest.
The 1943 Stearman in the background is from the bike's former owner : www.biplanefun.com
I appreciate any info.

Welcome Joe...there are a few OC people in this forum and a whole bunch of people with Z1000's. I'm sort of partial to them myself:)

Thanks Michael, I'm a newbie to the KZ, and haven't messed with a points based ignition system in 15 years. I have a lot of learning to do.

That is a good looking bike.... Just like the one I've been looking for
How much did it cost (if I may be so bold to ask)?

Is your bike a "built in Nebraska bike"? If the VIN starts with a 5 you have a genuine made in the USA bike. Nice bike. Roy

The bike is a USA model, he was asking $3000.00 for it, I worked a one hour bi-plane ride into the deal. ($425.00 value) He was the second owner, and had owned it since 1979. He wasn't too motivated to sell it. I don't know if I got a deal, I'm happy - he's happy.

It appears that the owner installed the drilled rotors.
I like them better than the plain ones. I don't know about the dual disk set up. I have seen those on wire wheeled bikes i just don't remember what year. You usally see dual rotors on european bikes.
As concerning the price. If you are happy and he is happy every one is happy. Roy

The previous owner upgraded the brakes to dual disk in the front. He did a some mods to it about 10 years ago. Mainly brakes and Kerker pipes.

Nice looking bike you've got there. It looks like he took an aftermarket header and then reinstalled one of the stock mufflers. Works for me! Congrats and welcome to the board. ,BK
