Hi all! Excited to be a part of the KZR community!
I just bought a 1982 KZ 1100 Spectre at the start of the summer and I'm trying my best to balance wrenching and riding I've been riding for about 6 years and I've had a 1992 Ninja and a 2002 KLR650. I miss the KLR but I wanted to try a cruiser so I got the KZ to scratch the itch. I've only recently I've tried my hand at performing the maintenance and repairs by myself and I'm really enjoying reading these forums and watching youtube videos to try and teach myself.
I was recently switching my petcock to reserve and I noticed the gas tank give a little wiggle. I got home lifted the seat and noticed my gas tank has a hole but no bolt or latch. I can freely lift the gas tank up and down and wiggle it around. Seems it's just resting on the mounts on the frame with nothing actually attaching it other than the fuel sensor wires Is this normal? lol...I have the Clymer book and the section of taking off the gas tank says IF there is a bolt at the rear of the fuel tank, remove the bolt washer and collar. This makes me think that this could be normal. But I've never had a bike with the gas tank this wiggly.

You need a rubber block to fasten the fuel tank.
Get the KZ1100 shaft service manual in the file base and cover the 12 Volt + battery terminal please.

Tha rubber block mounts into the tab on the tank. That tank need to slide forward and it should expose a threaded weld nut on the frame. A bound with sleeve spacer, and large washer drop through the rubber grommet and threads into the frame weld nut. Similar to this set up on my 80 750 E

This is for the 1981CSR 1000 but it’s got to be the same. I don’t find the Spectre parts fishe showing the bolt and spacer.
