sorry to double reply but I had a spare y63 needle to compare with the 5DL3 that i found. I didn't remove the current ones and then lazily not put back the originals while i was already in there.

Alright. It’s fixed.
I read somewhere on here riders were getting 40 sometimes even 50 mpg on stock air box and stock jets. And I typically get 30 or 35 on a good day,
even on ethanol free. So I decided to check the floats again. I cannot remember how I leveled them off the bike when I originally adjusted them, but I noticed that with the bike on its center stand it leans forward significantly. So I shimmed the wheel and checked the outside 2 carbs with the clear tube. They looked close to spec but again, the bike doesn’t sit level naturally. So I decided to drop the levels across the board.
problem solved. No more hesitation, I only had to adjust the air screws slightly to fix the idle. In fact it feels like the bike is significantly faster at all rpm’s. I did about 150 miles after and it had zero issues.
