Hello from Knoxville was created by Naxos
Just wanted to say hello! I have been lurking for a while and I have found a lot of useful info on here. Looking forward to participating some.
I have been working on a 77 650SR for about a year now still fighting through some of the issues from it sitting for over 20 years.
I also recently purchased a 1982 KZ1000LTD and am looking forward to going through it over the winter. It was maintained much better, but still needs some love to get it where I want it.

Replied by Naxos on topic Hello from Knoxville
Thanks for the warm welcome!
It all started with me and a 1976 cb750. My dad had given one to me when I turned 16, I had already been riding it for years while he had owned it.
I enjoyed that bike for several years before selling it for nothing not knowing what I had.
Fast forward a couple decades and my son wanting to take the MSF course re sparked my interest in motorcycles.
I bought a sport bike and have been riding it for a while since taking the course. The whole time I have been on the look out for an older Honda. (Still want a 76-78 Cb750)
Meanwhile I came across the kz650 on market place for a deal I couldn't pass up.
Now I have the KZ fever.
It had been sitting for a long time, and the story I was told was it had been wrecked shortly after it was bought new.
The previous owner completely restored the bike with a mash up of parts from various years as best I can tell. Frame is 77, exhaust is 79, engine is newer (I think). Then they parked it and it sit for 20+ years in a garage than a storage unit.
I have done front brakes, coils, petcock, murry's carb, and dyna s so far. Currently in the process of doing rear brakes, chain/sprockets and fixing the rectifier leads as they melted down on me the first time I took it on a ride longer than around the block. At some point I want to rebuild the original carbs and find a new airbox, as the one i have has a hole melted through one side.
The 1000 runs and rides well for a bike of its age with 20k miles, It appears to be leaking oil from the alternator cover and from a valve cover bolt. I have new gaskets for both and plan on doing both along with an oil change soon. Crossing my fingers that does the trick for the oil leaks. I will be doing a petcock again on this bike as the last owner put an inline shutoff valve in place of fixing the original vacuum petcock. I like the Pingel adapter plates. I did a Golan petcock on the 650 and liked it, but I think I will try one of the Pingels this time. I Will also be looking to do the chain and sprockets this winter. I will probably be doing a 530 conversion to get some better chain options.

A 530 chain conversion is a worthwhile update. Z1 Enterprises sells a reasonably priced "kit" with the parts needed.
BTW, I also had a 76 CB750 as my first road bike. Before that were several mini bikes and an old Triumph 650 we rode around the edge of the family's hay fields (and thru the woods, and any dirt road we could ride without getting caught). Some might say that explains a lot, haha.
