Hello, just introducing myself.
I got a '77 KZ 650 from my father in law last winter to help with my commute every morning and am finally getting it running again this summer. Never really played with carburators and the like and never had a bike before so this is pretty fun.

Looks like your dad-in-law took good care of that bike.
Welcome to the site... lots of KZ650 riders here, so you'll get lots of advice and opinions.
It's painted like a '77. Is it a re-paint?

Uuuuuuh... I went and checked the papers and it is a 77! I was born in '78 so this bike is actually older than I am.
The bike is in great condition but has 28k miles on it so the usual dirt, grime, and wear & tear. The bike had been garaged for over 10 years so there was some rust in the tank that we cleaned out. I started it up last night and discovered that the fuel lines had worn through sometime this last winter. After repairing that this morning there is no spark but plenty of juice. :S
Fortunatly I've got the repair manual, you guys here at KZRider and a little free time! Always wanted to get messy fixing up an older engine

Heh heh, I was going to take the front off except I'm going to be using the bike to commute 100 miles every day. I think it looks silly but I was told it would make a long drive really comfortable. Gotta try both setups out.
I'll take more pictures tomorrow! Thanks for all the complements!

I always did love that emerald green. That green was on the very first KZ650 I ever saw, ridden by a guy I knew named Charlie. I was jealous as he and my other friend Doug (who was riding an old Triumph Bonnie 650) had such a terrific time that summer. That was in about 1977-78 or so.
