Hello to all. I'm 49 and started riding at age 10. My last bike was a 05 SV 1000S
but sold it about a month ago. I just bought a 73 Z1 900 that's in fairly good
shape but needs going over to be nice. The engine jumped time and bent
all the valves so now is a good time to go through whole engine. This bike
is special to me because my dad bought it new. He bought it in 1973 and sold
it in 1975 and the owner knew that if it came up for sale that I was interested
in buying it. So now I have a winter and spring project.

Welcome...a tough project, but worth it...in terms of personal historical value and the value of the bike itself.

Welcome to KZR.
I'm surprised you didn't keep both bikes.
The SVS is a great bike.

Cool story, getting your dad's old ride back. Sorry about the bent valves, but sounds like you're good to go for a rebuild.
