I found this site recently after reacquiring my 78 KZ 650 SR. I was the second owner of this bike back in the early 80's, then sold it to my bro in law. He rode it lightly until 99 and ever since then it sat in the weeds. I was concerned about the high price of gas and started looking for a new bike but didn't spot anything that knocked my socks off. Then I spotted my old bike in the weeds and a light came on. I asked to see if it was for sale and he said yes so I proceeded to see if it would even run. It was relatively easy to get running and all seemed well mechanically. I did a little barter for the bike and it is now mine. So now I have put a new battery, better tires, paint job, new seat cover and pan, plexifairing, turn signal lenses, and much tinkering. What fun,it's great to have her back and in good shape. It's like getting reacquanted with an old girlfriend lol. I recently went to a rummage sale and the lady there had a yamaha 1100 to give away but it needed carbs, seat and rear shocks so I took it anyway thinking I could get this running as well even tho I wasn't to hot on the idea. Then it hit me, try to trade it for a wrecked KZ 650 athis bike recycler where I have been getting all my parts. The deal went thru and now I have a spare engine with only 13000 miles on it plus frame, front wheel, airforks, carbs and numerous little parts. Sometime these projects hit snags and can be discouraging but this has been easy sleding all the way. This is a very nice site and I hope to hang around for awhile.

Ditto the request for pics. I'm especially interested in the fairing.
Good thinking about a parts bike, too... I wish I had the space for it.

Welcome aboard, Jack.
Always great news to hear of another KZ hitting the (relatively) soon!
It's hard to believe that I rode last Wednesday and could have Saturday and now it's white out. Bleah!

Thanks for the hearty welcome. There is so much info here on all the forums that I doubt I will return here very often. Snow here also, sure dampens the riding. Jack
