It kinda confused me on the blueing of the rt Muff. The previous owner thinks a critter crawled inside during its Pole barn storage and created a hot spot.
Can those mufflers be seperated,or the baffles removed 4 inspection I hope?

If one or two pipes are blueing, and the others aren't, you may need to sync your carbs. Or you may have a coil that's not getting a good pulse to your plugs.
My pipes looked pristine until I changed to Dyna coils. The bike ran alot better, but the pipes started to blue at the engine. My No. 1 pipe is a little bluer, but not much. May just be differences in the wall thickness or amount of plating in the pipe. No biggy.

That's true too, but it's the *location* of the blue that drew my attention...

As normal with coil/sync-ing issues, your pipes are bluing at the header.

B-340's are bluing waaaaaaaaaaaay back at the muffler. His header is clean.

While the coils/carbs may be contributing to the issues, the location indicates that there's a hot spot developing on the right side that isn't there on the left - which doesn't mean that the coils/carbs aren't the ultimate source, but it *does* mean that there's some varience of the pulses from left to right - exhaust tuning is a game of millimeters and milliseconds... ;)

Ahhh Sooo...
Thanks, PT. I didn't catch that the blueing was so far downstream. Still, it may just be a bad chome plate, locally at that spot in the muffler.

Welcome to KZr bandit340.

Sweet lookin' scoot ya got there!
And a very cool looking 340cid Duster (Demon?) in your avatar pic. B)

Like flht1997 stated, the cross-over header pipes came stock on the SR models. IIRC, the design was to promote better exhaust scavaging(sp) and increase the "Umpph!" factor a little bit. :woohoo:

I just tried to start it...No electric start..Battery good,Kicked the beast over and it fired up but ran awful,no throttle response.Fuel smelled like to much Seafoam I think. It only Idled at almost full choke then quit.Plugs were fouled and fuel was leaking out of the left exhaust pipe B4 the crossover.
Previous owner had carbs redone last summer at considerable cost...Go figure.
Also said the pipe was blued when he bought it from original owner.
So now the adventure begins....I cant wait

Welcome my brother! Those are the same pipes I have, the crossovers. My buddy whose has an identical SR had his muffler turn color and I'm trying to remember what caused it. My header pipes were a little blue when I got it and are (bluer?) more blue now. She looks good. Red is what I started looking for.ARREST ME red!

Thanks Pumps

Ask your buddy what he found and let us know.
The more I look at this bike the more I am amazed what a time capsule it is.
I bought this bike and didnt tell my wife.
I switched places with my MaximX and stored the Yamaha at my neighbors garage.
Its been 4 days now and she hasnt noticed anything.
How long will it take her to notice ?
LOL

Welcome fellow owner of a persimmon candy red SR. I can't say we have the same problems in bikes, but we do have the same probs in getting bikes and not telling the family. I remember when I got my bike and my mother didn't know about it and you know parents and their kids towards bikes. My mom always looked at this bike under the bike cover for weeks and never thought it was mine and I waited till my sister told here she was moving out to tell her more bad news. Then I got my Kz1000 and I just parked it on the other side of the building and she found out about it when I was cropping the pic on the computer.....boy was I in trouble but I do lie about how much I get it for to make less trouble for myself. You should post your pics in the gallery, and as for the bluing, it could be a baffle out of place that is touching the outer pipe transfering the heat to blue it, possibly from a misfire years ago or some pressure pushed it out. Thats my theory dude I didn't say I was right
