Supposedly I got 1 of the last 2 pipes from motogpwerks that were made for the season for my 76 900, the last one was just sold last week. shipped with tracking # within 2 hrs after payment, $549.00 to my door...less money & better quality, than Kerker ....maybe if there is a demand for them, they'll make some more up ...Pete

Hey guys I want some feedback here before I decide to ship off my carbs. I have a 77 KZ1000a1 stock motor with a Motogpwerks 4into1 on its way. Currently I am running an old Henry Abe Bread box filter(but working on a new design of my own). I'm not quite ready for a big bore kit at this time but am thinking of having my carbs bored from 26 to 30 via "Maxi-bore". What is your honest opinion on this?
This is his clam:
Don’t just rebuild your carbs – MAXI-BORE them!
MAXI-BORE carbs are more than just cleaned, rebuilt, or bored, they are MAXI-BORED.
Outperform 29mm Smoothbores, at a fraction of the cost. How is this possible?
MAXI-BORE carbs look stock on the outside. So, no one will know the power you have on tap. Vastly improved throttle response.
There is no easier, cheaper, more reliable way to build huge, dependable HP gains with your engine. Compatible with ported heads, high lift cams, big bore kits & any exhaust. Multiply the power potential of your engine. If you have a modified motor, why settle for 26mm carbs? You won't believe the difference MAXI-BORE carb re-manufacturing will make.
Make your stock motor run with the big bore kit guys. Many engine modifications can reduce the reliability and life of your engine. MAXI-BORE carbs can make your stock bike faster than modified bikes, without any of the reliability issues of engine modification. Instant power, OEM reliability, at bargain basement prices!
So, good, even a stock engine will roar with delight.
What’s so special about MAXI-BORE carbs?
The MAXI-BORE process was developed on a FLOW BENCH! After weeks and weeks of flow testing this design was created. A work of art that combines extreme airflow improvement with vastly improved fuel atomization, and stronger jet signals. You see, liquid fuel can not burn, only vaporized fuel can burn. MAXI-BORE carbs are more fuel efficient than your OEM carbs. You get more power and usually better fuel economy. You get more fuel in your engine, and more of that fuel is burned, making more power.
Stock 26mm carbs flow 70cfm (cubic feet per minute) at 10” H20 vacuum.
30.5mm MAXI-BORE carbs flow 105cfm.
29mm Smoothbores only flow 98cfm.
So, the total flow increase in your four carbs is a whopping 140cfm!!! That’s like adding 2 more 26mm carbs!
Think you understand airflow? Here are some questions that might let you know where you stand on airflow.
Any feed back you could provide would be greatly appreciated. $500 is a chunk of change I do not want to throw away and I won't have my old carbs to go back to since he bores out my carbs.

regarding backfiring and misses and after talking and more thinking, I'm confident my my valve guides are shot.
This, of course, means the head will be sent off for work. Now, the question is, "how much work?" This is my daily driver. Usually 100% reliable, "jump on it and ride to Mexico and back for the weekend" reliable :woohoo: [true story!]. I trust it and don't want to lose any reliability whatsoever. I have an 1105 and a Z1 I'm building to have dirty, dirty fun with.
Anyhow, it's an internally stock 903cc motor. Kerker with street baffle, Dyna S, K&N airbox filter, just small things to get a bit more performance out of it. Here are a few scenarios I'm thinking of, please comment as I can't make up my mind, I've never done work like this before, and, arguably most importantly, will be keeping this bike the rest of my life and don't want to make any compromises and avoid weak spots. This engine won't be hot rodded any further than what I'm doing now [with the possibly exception of drop in street cams a few months from now].

Camshafts:
Exhaust:
I am very much undecided - any suggestions? Thoughts? Comments?
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Head:
- New valve guides, new cam chain, rollers, and tensioner.
- I am definitely considering new stainless steel valves and a 3-angle valve job.
- I'm even thinking about a light porting job - nothing crazy, not even "Stage 1," but just a nice, better-than-stock overhaul.
- [strike]Do I hone my 903 and clean up my stock pistons[/strike]
- Bore my 903 to 1015 with new Wiseco's [10.25:1 compression]
- Bore my 903 to 1045 with new 10.25:1 Wiseco's
- [strike]Or find a 1015 cylinder and bore it to 1075 with new 10.25:1 Wiseco's?[/strike]
- This is and will be a street bike using mid-grade or premium pump gas
- Glass-beaded to clean them up nice!
- Do I need new APE studs?
- [strike]Weld the crank?[/strike]
- Clutch work?
- [strike]Undercut the tranny?[/strike]
- Manual tensioner? Jim @ Redline does not like them for street bikes, say's the chain is more often than not, torqued down too much
- I have a set of 29mm smoothbores that I've been meaning to rebuild to bolt on
- I plan on keeping the airbox
- Ditching the 26s without a doubt!
Camshafts:
- Stock cams planned at this point for budget reasons
- If I do an overbore, I'd like to get a set of Web 118s or 931s a few months from now and rejet the carbs accordingly
Exhaust:
- Keeping my Kerker for now
- Possibly going to the 2.5" competition baffle if I bore it out
- [strike]I've been drooling over a Motogpwerks pipe for a long time, that might come down the road, after cams[/strike]
- Or I might bolt on one of the old school Yoshimura pipes I've got
I am very much undecided - any suggestions? Thoughts? Comments?
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Just bought a Motogpwerks for my '82 Katana. That is a sweet pipe. Chris does not make a version for the Z bikes.

My God! A 2 pound pipe??? That is unreal. I have to research that.
I had originally thought about maybe getting a Titanium Win-McCoy as used on the Bull Dock bikes but it is about $2,300. I thought this Sanctuary pipe would be reasonable but after doing the conversion math they want about $1,200 Canadian. Stuff is very pricey in Japan. I'm sure the quality is nothing short of excellent.
Shipping is free but the 13% on top I pay in import fees take it to nearly $1,400.
I could buy nearly 3 kerkers for that. Or 6 crappy MAC pipes LOL!
Makes me wonder if I was to get this pipe if I would ever be able to recoup my investment. I'm already into my MKII for a lot of money with all the NOS parts and the new blue tin I got from Doremi. And I still have to budget for a low bar conversion. Yikes! This stuff never ends.
Haven't closed the door on getting this and if I could find a Japanese seller who might offer me a discount I might got for it.

Thanks doc. It was the K2 then that I retired off my Suzuki to make room for the motogpwerks pipe then. The K2 also had to be removed for an oil change. Paul

What kind of Suzuki is that Slayer? About an '85 right? I met a guy on the road with one and then crossed paths with him at a gas station. He mentioned the year but I didn't get a chance to ask him what it was.
Joe,
it's a 1983 GS1100es... or the motor and frame is anyways
