This was evidenced by no grease what-so-ever inside the zerk fitting on the swingarm. It looked brand new shiny clean. So I doubt it even had a shot of grease at the factory when it was built. At least when I took apart the steering head bearings they had a some grease on them, probably from the initial build, but it had long ago dried to brown clumpy dirt. How on earth people can be so negligent in their maintenance on a motorcycle is beyond me.
To 650ed: I don't know how it happened, but your post with the torque wrench length chart disappeared.

I screwed up, but it's back now. Ed

The Japs were always stingy with the grease.Rick H. wrote: Thank you for the responses guys. They hardly ever put any in at the factory.
Not uncommon for s/a spindles to be seized in the bearings especially if its been at home in a wet part of the country.

That sounds Great mate! Would you be able to recommend any rear absorber that would work with The swing arm from The gs1100e?
Any other mods that would be needed to fit The swing arm?
(sorry for my bad english, i'm from sweden )

The 82 Suzuki GS1100E swingarm is a really easy swap. Its boxed aluminum, 2" longer and a 150 tire will fit. It requires a different set of shocks but your replacing those anyway.

So,
I just bought a kz1000/Z1000 from 1983. I am looking for update it with some higher rear absorber, wider swing arm and wider wheels, including some minor parts like newer foot pegs/shifter.
Do you guys have any idea, what kind of swing arm that would work out with at least custom built at least.
My first post, so i might put the questions in wrong subject, sorry for that if so
Thanks in advance!
Regards.

Greetings guys!
Well decided to share my view on the restomod project i am finishing currently.
About 10 years ago, I bought myself a basket case of GPZ750A2. Some guys in Austria tore it down for painting, and never got it together.
Luckily, all the stuff was there, so i got it completed, and drove it for about 7-8 years hussle free.
I wasn't very keen of the orange wheels and swingarm but as i were a student (read cashless), i stopped noticing it.
As years went by, i got some modern stuff (zx9r) and the GPZ stood forgotten in friends garage for few years, until the worm inside of me started yelling that I should get it back on the road but in some more modern way of form, and correcting all the bits and pieces i always wanted but never did.
The lack of power compared to the modern things wasn't the main problem, but I was really tired of that 80s railroad train type of handling.
Also decided that I'm not gonna cut anything off the frame or make inreversable changes, cause maybe one day I'll turn it back into original shape.
This is how it looked in the first reincarnation in my student years:

Finally got the rear wheel and rear end sorted. Had to do a bit of grinding on the swing arm and shorten the sprocket mount studs for clearance. Waiting for my offset sprocket to arrive but with the 520 chain and sprockets using a zx9 rear wheel with 180 tire it fits and spins freely. I am so relieved this actually fit. I’ll be using the stock zx9 rear brake set-up with a custom line.
So to clarify for anybody wanting to go this route...
Gs1100 swingarm
94-97 zx9 rear wheel and brake set-up
Kz1000 rear axle and chain tensioners
Custom spacers
Custom bearings
13.5” shocks
180/55/17 tire
Offset front sprocket
520 chain
520 rear sprocket
