Daveo, if its any help im going to try PJ1 Satin, i've already used it on my starter motor & behind it when it was out & it seems to take a long time to dry, mind you im in Ireland, its 17 degrees centigrade here at the min & humid, thats pretty warm for here at this time of year. Mine might take more time to dry than yours.

Hi Steve,

I guess I don't understand the question. Do you mean are the side covers, valve cover painted etc? If so, no. All the covers are polished aluminum. All the cases are glass bead blasted.

There's pro's and cons to everything of course. When I get the inevitable oil leak from one of the gaskets, I'm sure it will stain.

This will be a perfect weather bike though, and will never see a drop of rain etc.... :) Well, except for those bastages that backwash their pool into the street here in AZ.

Downfall of paint, stain, powder coat is if it comes out like crap, what a PITA to fix.... :pinch:
I'll just leave mine alone.... Bling-Bling thank you much...

Austin, we need to hook up for a ride some day soon, weather is turning for us finally....

Oh hellz yes. You've seen the state my bike is in, so come on over, pick me up, and you can ride Bi*&% on the back of your own bike. Lol

Just kidding. I'm sending out everything to powdercoat and chrome in the next couple of weeks, so I should have my bike done definitely before 2016 or so. Lol

It depend on overall engine and it should be tested first, so better you show it to the mechanic and then take action.

I used restolium brake caliper paint, rated to 900* so far has been holding up great to the heat . even the headers are still looking great. and I have heasted her up pretty good too. even after a couple of 120 pluss runs she still looks great

martin_csr wrote: Not the engine, but I've painted the engine covers, wheels, muffler stays & brackets, and other parts w Duplicolor Engine Enamel w Ceramic. It comes in various colors, including black in gloss, semi-gloss, & low-gloss. I used semi-gloss black & baked the parts in the oven to cure. It has held up well - no chips or anything. As a side note, bar-b-que grill paint works good to deter rust on the back side of steel parts.

But I'd guess the VHT or something else is better.

Awesome efforts! The bike seems to be a new one.
Well done!

Hey guys. Just thought I'd update. Got the engine polished, painted, and all back together again with new seals, gaskets, various mods. Pretty happy with it. Used the high temp engine paint on a few pieces. Only hope it holds up. Thanks for all the input.

Engine is beautiful, a showpiece, and the hi-temp paint should hold up well, and be easily touched up if ever needed.

Good Fortune! :)
