Today my petcock decided to be evil. Its stock and when I went down into the garage today all i could smell was fuel.
Took the tank off and the petcock was so bad (wouldnt stop leaking) I had to turn the tank upside down to get all the fuel out. Also, the fuel, when it was parked overnight, leaked through #3 overflow tubes. I took the carbs off and sure enough, the float tang (i think its called) wasnt bent properly to the extent of the other. fixed that.

Im going to measure tomorrow but has anyone put a pingel on their KZ650? I have to measure the bolt to bolt length to get the mm for the adapter Pingel sells.

You may have to ream out the petcock hole to fit the Pingel. Beware of any sparks >> BOOM !!!!

Alternative vacuum petcock. Z1Enterprises.com may have an aftermarket Suzuki w 44mm bolt-hole-spacing that will work. This was an option several years ago & I guess it's still available.

Thanks for responding.

I spoke to pingel and they said all i need do is measure the bolt spacing and they supply an adapter that the pingel petcoc screw into. They didnt mention anything else about drilling, etc.

I guess you mean this one: www.z1enterprises.com/petcock-vacuum-suzuki.html

You may have to ream out the hole to clear the Pingel's stainless steel filter.
You'll be able to see it better once you get the valve.
I used a hand file after I filled my tank completely with water.
As Martin said...sparks.

Ah thanks. Pingel didnt tell me any of this! I wish someone somewhere sold the proper petcock for the bike.

Yeah, check the shape of your petcock opening(s) on your gas tank.
It may be pill-shaped instead of a circle.
The Pingel requires a circular opening.
So cutting may be necessary.
I actually may have used a slow step drill to modify my tank.

Yeah mine looks like this:  I want to use a drill bit, but I shiver thinking of all the metal shavings that will be left in the tank. An if i make a circular hole wider than the pill shape, how will it seal if its wider than the sealing gasket?

It won't be wider.
You would just need to open up the top and bottom a bit.
The circle opening required actually has less area than the pill-shape.
I'd wait till you get the valve.
Your choice of valve may be slightly different than mine anyway.
Otherwise, you may cut too much.

Below is a rough guess.

Thanks for your help. Last thing I want to do is damage the tank before I get it painted. Looking for a body shop that can do green candy similar to the original. second from front

I can tell you that I have used probably a dozen pingel fuel valves over the years and there customer service is amazing. I had a bike I put a pingel valve on probably twelve or thirteen years ago... had sold the bike and bought it back a few years ago. Had a slight leak issue (first ever) called and they said send it in. I did and they completely rebuilt it for me at no charge. Nobody does that today. I will always spend the money on a Pingel product.

Thanks for the ringing endorsement of Pingel. But what bike did you put the Pingel on?

Find a painter in your area that can spray House of Kolor paint.
There should be a paint that is close to that in their lineup.
Look at the paint samples in sunlight. Pay attention to the color shift at different angles.
