I am working on a 1982 KZ1000 LTD that needs a complete seat. I see lots of seats for sale for the 77-80 LTDs, but hardly anything for my 82. The frames look similar. Does anyone know the difference? I am ok with modifying the frame. Thanks!

Ed

It may have to do with the placement of the hinges and seat lock. Pics of the two?

Also, the B-model Ltd seat is shaped to fit around a ducktail & it may fit at the tank differently.
And the pan may have a different shape as the B-model frame seems to be flatter than the later K-models.

I thought you said you were looking at seats on eBay. That's why I asked for pics. You can copy them and post them here.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThe 77/80 LTD's seat are very different from the 81/82 LTD's. The earlier model seats are designed to fit and hug the duck tail, and since the later models don't come with a duck tail, the designs are completely different and will not fit properly. Try looking for LTD seats from 1981 on, even the 550750 LTD seats will fit and look better than than the ones from 77/80, as the back of the seat has a curve that hugs the dovetail and give it a clean fit, if you put an earlier seat on a 81/82 you are not going to hug the rear chrome fender and you will have a wide opening in the rear of the seat that will look like crap, my camera is broken, otherwise I would have posted a pic of both seats. Hope this helps.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

I just bought one of the seats from the link provided. The profile fits in the seat area perfectly, but the hinges are not in the same place which is not a problem. The hinges are easily relocated. Just to update, I am installing a seat from a 1982 KZ550 LTD on my 1982 KZ1000 LTD. The KZ550 seats are cheaper and more available. KZ750 LTD seats would probably work too. Thanks again.

Bit of an old thread, but no point in starting a duplicate. I also have a 82 1000 LTD and am looking at seat options.  Can anyone else confirm, or provide more details on, if the smaller four LTD seats swap (with some minor tinkering...moving pivot points it sounds like) to the 1000 LTD?  Does "fit" mean the lock catch and other bits need to be adapted as well?

I don't know how good the fit is.  If it's any help, the KZ650-CSR has the same seat as the 1981-83 KZ750H* Ltd-4.
The csr seat is approx 30"L x 12.5"W. ... width was measured at about the middle, at the 5th seam where the seat is widest. see pic.

1982 KZ750-H3 Ltd seat. It's identical to the 650-CSR I measured. the H3 seat is on my motorcycle. they're identical.

* - the 1980 750-H1 has an unusual 2-piece seat.

The frame rails on the "J" series bikes (81 on) are wider apart than the earlier 1000 so hinge and catch positions would need some work (duckbill needs to be widened to fit the later frame)
