On the replacement pads I picked up (and the ones on the bike, hence the reason for replacements), there should be a groove around the outside circumference (on the side). When brake wear reaches this groove, replace them. 3/16"? Doesn't sound like much, especially this early in riding season. As far as I am concerned, they are cheap, easily replaced, and the peace of mind is worth it. Good Luck, hope this helps.

I found the #- it suggests replacement at under 1MM- ain't much.

That's a little (very little) under .040", sounds pretty thin to me also :)

I'd replace them before they got that thin.

agreed- I just re-checked, and that's the # in the "owners manual" but yeah- .040 is pushing it!!

BTW that manual is pretty thorough for what it is- just what comes with the bike when purchased.

I don't want to hijack this thread but any suggestions for what brands of replacement pads are best and what to stay away from?
