Im looking to put a ZX wheel on my bike, but I'm worried about having to use offset sprockets (big offsets are hard on the output shaft right?) I want to be able to get a 180 tire on the wheel, are there any modles(zx6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12) that put the rear sprocket close to where the stock one would line up to? as in Not making me go with a large offset for the front? thanks a lot
(thinking about wheels from a 95 ZX11, or a 93 ZX6 I found for sale)

With that wide a tire, the only way you could get the chain by it is to set the sprocket out, or offset the wheel to the right enough to get the chain by the tire.
A little offset on the countershaft sprocket is ok (I forget what the amount is), but if it has to go out very far, then you may need an outboard bearing support, and a sprocket with a nose to fit in the bearing.
I think 3/8" is the commonly accepted maximum without an outboard support, but it may be more (probably is), I don't get into such things, so don't take this as gospel :)

I got a 1996 zx7 swingarm and wheel which is 5.5" and i have 190/55-17 pirelli dragonslick mounted on the rear of my dads 1977 z1250.
Alls that is required to keep the chain true is a 3/8 offset countershaft sprocket available from Kosman for about $80.00.
The rest is too easy to mention:evil:

another view...

This setup has proved completely reliable and more than 4000 miles have been carved with no sign of anything failing.
Even the CZ 530 X-ring chain has never needed adjusting!
Just make sure to order a 530 C/S sprocket because ZX's use 530 chains.

Very nice setup Intimida2or, 190 sounds even better  , so that doesnt need the outboard bearing support right? (just so Im 100% sure)

Does the 650 take the same front sprockets as the big bikes? (I thought I saw somewhere that they had a different "pattern" of spline to fit the output shafts.... ) If they are different, maybe it would be easier to get a machinist to make me an offset sprocket with my old one and a new one? thanks

You may have read that they are different in the following thread, but if you read a little farther you will see that they are the same :)
In other words, the 650 and 1000 sprockets will interchange.

I got the front sprocket which is a 17 tooth 3/8ths offset here:
www.kosmanracing.com/

The rear is the stock ZX7 which is a 46tooth.

The 190 is just plain awesome both looking and performing!

No bearing support was used in this bike , and really 3/8ths is not very much at all and pretty much is like ading a couple fender washers washers .
I would however add the bearing support for any thing over 3/8ths, but for the street a 5.5 inch wheel is more than enough!
