I am into my SR pretty heavily now. It started off as a clean up and fire up, but everytime I lift something off its dirty and I tear off everything else around it etc etc. I tore the front end apart to paint the upper and lower triple tree. My question is... Has anyone changed out the ball bearings(loose) for a more modern style bearing?(not sure what they are called but you know what i mean)

ha ha yeah maybe. I have a local company here that specializes in bearings and bought german ones from him for my mt bike, and they were WAY cheaper than the ones the manufacturer was flogging, is the bottom of the triple tree harder to get off than the top?? Also I am looking for new chrome bolts for the handle bar holder downers(sure they have a name)

you can beat the old races out with long rod,you can put new ones in with a big seal driver or socket if you have right sizebe carefull though!cut the bottem race off triple tree with cut off wheel.find piece of pipe slightly larger than triple tree stem you can use that to seat lower bearing on tree once again be carefull!you mean handlebar clamp bolts?do you want regular bolts or allen head bolts ?send me pm with your adress and ill send you some.goodluck, happy wrenching!;)
