Hi, was wondering if GPz wheels would fit a KZ, specifically the front wheel from a 1984 GPZ 1100 fitting on my 1977 KZ 650. If its not a bolt-on, can it be done without too much work? thanks

My 650 has a 19 on it now, the 1100 wheel im looking at is an 18, height isnt an issue, I'm more concerned about width, and if I will have to use another axle bolt or not. The bolt shouldn't be too much trouble if its different, I could make one to fit, but if the wheel is too wide, I'm going to have to do a whole front end swap, and thats not really in the budget yet :(

GPz1100 front wheel is wider than the KZ650 front wheel.
The 750 twin and KZ650 wheels are interchangable, and I had a set of GPz1100 wheels that I thought about putting on a 750 twin so I measured them, and nope they would not fit :(

My front wheel is from an 84 550 GPZ. It will not fit your stock 77 forks though without some sort of sleeve. The 77 forks have the axle mounted at the bottom of the fork. The GPZ probably has the axle mounted in front of the forks. My forks are from an 80 LTD so it worked for me however I would bet that the GPZ brake disc is smaller because my brake calipers dont seems to be covering as much of the disc as they could.

Similar to 77 stock forks

If you look closely at the blue bike below you can see the difference. I dont have a decent pic of the LTD forks that are working with my GPZ wheel though. I also had to use some spacers to get the LTD calipers to work with the GPZ discs

The wheel in this picture has 7 spokes. I'm almost positive this was only used on the 81 Gpz 550. The 82/83 gpz 550 had 5 spokes and the 84/85 gpz 550 used a design with 3 split spokes. This is from what I recall.

The 550 LTD's also used the 7 spokers with single discs (maybe dual disc on the shafties?).

Or is the photo not the 550 wheel you are talking about?

But what are those discs from? They seem to be riveted to a carrier. The gpz 550's had the discs bolted directly to the wheel with allen bolts.

Sorry Lou, that pic is from a 78 SR that I had. My GPZ wheel that Im using has 3 spokes only. I was just showing the position of the axle, similar to his 77 in that pic. The calipers in that pic would be in front if that were a set of 77 forks
