I am going to put clip-ons on my 77 kz1000 - does anybody know if someone makes a custom upper triple clamp that does away with the handle bar clamps? I have the means to just remove them, but I am not interested in messing with the integrity of the original upper triple clamp.... could get messy

A custom triple tree sounds pricey. Can't cut of handlebar mounts (carefully) and grind smooth. They are heavy steel pieces, I would not expect any integrity issues, as long as you don't go nuts with a cutting torch.

You won't hurt the integrity of the upper triple clamp by cutting them, but here's a question... why cut them?

What you can do alternatively, which actually looks GREAT is to make a "dash" out of steel and then cut a piece of bar to fit between those clamps, and mount your dash to it.

The dash should have holes for the speedo and tach, and you can place the instruments more level and far forward so you can see them more easily in a tuck. :)

If the offset, distance between centres, stanchion diameter etc is the same between your bike and a GPz, the GPz upper triple clamps do not have handle bar clamps.

I'm 99% sure they are not.

You can bore the triple trees of a '77 KZ1000 to accept the GPz1100 fork legs and run the GPz wheels, so I'd say offset difference is the same.

Hey, I think this has actually solved my own problem - how to put Renthals on the GPz Streetfighter project, (without spending a fortune)!
