Hi all...
Its high time the bike in my shed recieved some love!
I want to monoshock the back and install some modern forks/brakes and wheels...any suggestions as to a good donor bike?....is there a common upgrade that people make?
I want to make the bike a "future/retro" cafe racer,so some modern forks/wheels etc should do the job,but is it a big headache making it all fit? How much strengthening does the frame need to take a monoshock? How do you make sure the handling isnt affected badly

Any thoughts/photos or links to projects allready completed like this would be much appreciated!

I have a set of zx600a front forks and triple trees that are commonly used on kz650 upgrades. They are a 37mm tube with adjustable dampening and rebound. They also have an anti-dive that is actuated by front brake pressure. They are pretty clean and show little wear.

I am building a kz650 AHRMA racer and I thought I could use the zx600 forks, but AHRMA rules out using non-period forks. My mistake! I may also have a mono swing arm & shock from a ZR7 that you might be able to retrofit. I'll check into the dimensions and let you know if the swing are might be retrofit to the 650 chassis.

Triple: I'd be interested in the dimensions on that zr7 swing, and if Mocker isn't interested and the numbers are good, I may be interested in getting that setup.

Mainly wondering about the pivot width.

Thanks bro.

How much money do you want to spend? The range is limitless it just depends on you much coolness factor you want. If you keep the rear wheel no more than 4.5" in widthe the modifications are easier. If you decide to fit a 5" and up well then you are talking harder modifications and more money for the parts. An easy mod would be an 83 gs aluminum swingarm and 93 zx6 wheels. Only slight machining would be required to bring the sproket carrier closer to the wheel to get the proper chain line. Any larger wheel and you will also need a front offset sproket. There is so much more but that is just the basics. As far as the front goes just depends on if you want to go with an USD fork or not, then there is brakes radial mounts or not??? See what i mean. If you have specific questions start posting them.

I'm sure there's an easier way, but I'm doing a
similar thing.

81 Z650 CSR w/
93 GSXR750 Front Forks, Brakes, Wheel
93 ZR750 Rear Wheel (4.00 X 17)
8X GPZ 750 Swingarm
90 Ninja 600 Shock, Linkage

The linked pics below are a few days old, and don't
show the latest work. I've capped the top shock mount
off and replaced the lower mockup mounts in the
pictures. I've also fabbed and mounted the steering
stops.

Like I said, this is in progress, but the goal is to
have this one ready for Daytona in a month. Shouldn't
be too much of a problem if I stay motivated and get
the bits to powder coat/paint on time. :)
