what is the easiest way to change tach lights?
my 77 kz1000 has both out(could be wiring also)
i am having a bear of a time getting the bulbs out?
any tips?

Sorry if my bike is too dissimilar, but on mine you take off the decorative back cover (you may have to take off the headlight to get to it), then unscrew the tach off the mount, and then the lights are right there held in by rubber plugs.

By the way, both my speedo and tach had no lights, but all the other indicator lights worked. It turned out that there was a broken wire in my harness right below the gauges. Where the one wire split into two for each gauge, the crimp had rubbed/bent to many times and broke. Just a little re-crimp and it was all good.

I found replacement bulbs at Autozone. They're made by Lighting Technologies, and the part no. is 1445. They come two in a pack, and they're not expensive (maybe $3.00 for the two-pack).

watch the rubber boots around bulbs when you pull them out they get dry and rip really easy.;)

I would say that trying to pull the rubber light boots out of the gauges without destroying the rubber was the single hardest part of my white face gauge install. Take your time and try to work them out slowly. I used a screwdriver and some pliers to help pry them a little at a time. They went back in much easier. Hope this helps.
