second place I looked, they are way too expensive for me, ebay has what I need, if I find the right kit for whatever carb I have.

The 83 LTD 550 uses the TK 22 mm carbs. Other than stock parts that come in the rebuild kits, replacement parts are a PITA to find. Oversize jets needed to tune for header or pods are basically unavailable. There is a type of Kehin carb that has main jets that are supposed to work in these carbs.

The 550's are great little bikes but these carbs suck. Wired George told me this company was big in building lawnmower carbs and such.

So I am told that I have TK 22 mm carbs, where do I look for a id number to confirm? On an '83 I want to be sure they haven't been changed. Also, I have like four different parts number for rebuild kits, which ones do I need? Thanks

If you look on the side of the carbs just in front of the choke lever you should see the letters TK surrounded by a double raised circle, further down just above where the float bowl screws onto the carb body it will say tk carburettor co ltd. Below is a pic of the carbs off my 83 550 LTD.

That looks like them, thanks, anybody know the keyster or other number for the carb rebuild kits? I have found several different part numbers for the kits, even different numbers from the same manufacturer. thanks

So after much searching I ordered 4 keyster full carb kits from sirius cosolidated inc. online. The kits were $17.50 apiece and only $2.50 for shipping, I just hope my research was right and I got the right kit. The kaw carb numbers match up, so here we go. Anyone have advice on rebuilding carbs for the first time? Should I use a shop? thanks

There are several kits out there for your TK22's. I think the Keyster and/or K&L come with the stock jets for your bike along with adjustable versions of your stock needles. The Dynojet kit comes with several bigger main jets and a longer adjustable needle. In my opinion, it's easier to tune the with the Dynojet needle if you have a 4-1 exhaust or take the pods off. That's because the Dynojet needle has a single long taper and the stock needle tapers in stages. Sometimes going to the next clip is too much of an increase on the stock needle, and using shim washers can cause the needle to bind so you don't want to use them.
