Hi! I kept saying my kz1000 from `77 was expensive to ride: much fuel consumption. Now I noticed that when I open gas above 2000rpm lots of petrol comes out of the overflow tubes. It does not happen when at idle or when I ride at a steady speed, only when I open gas. Wallet hurts and I am scared of getting in flames. I have read other threads but I think this is a new issue. I understand the reasons why carbs sometimes overflow (sticky floats, valves not closing..) but I cannot imagine why it happens when I open full throtle and not before. Hope my explanation is clear and someone can give me some advise. Thanks from Spain!

Your subject line said VM29. Since those carbs don't have overflows, I suspect VM29 was a mispring and you meant VM26? If these are overflowing when you are riding, first thing to do is try and figure out if the carbs are the problem or some other issue is at play. I suggest you carry a spray bottle of water and squirt each exhaust header downtube. If the water rolls off, there is no combustion. This would account for the gas overflowing from the carburetor as it isn't being burned. If the water vaporizes, then you do have combustion and the floats are either hanging, at the wrong level or the flot needle isn't seating. There are not many other options.

Most folks who get a KZ and run on three cylinders feel their bike runs OK. I suggest the spray bottle test and that you bear with me and do some basic trouble shooting. Identifying the carburetors is fine but serves little purpose if a plug isn't firing or a float assembly is hanging or just needs cleaned.

Well I supose it would not reach 120mph+ if it was on three pistons! I still would like to know exactly which carbs I have! See pictures please! Next I will take carbs off for inspection and cleaning. Thanks!

I had already pointed out that I don't believe the actual identification of the carburetors would solve the problem. I attempted to troubleshoot but the thread got to carb ID somehow. The pictures shown are not adequate for identifying the carbs but I would guess 77 VM26 for KZ1000 based on the rubber clad choke lever and no air screws.

I am very sorry for changing the subject Wired. But I thought I may ask you (being an specialist) about which carbs I have. Same as arobsum I couldn´t hardly believe you would not know. You have to know that I live in a little island in Spain and parts are difficult to get here so I like to gather as much information as possible before I take any parts off. I have a good camera and much time to take as many pictures as you need to help me... if you want.

Ok. Carbs identified. They ARE VM26ss.
