Hello fellow riders,

I have been fighting the temptation to remove the stock aibox and put pods on my wifes 82 440, I lost the battle this weekend. I must add that the most motivating factor was the problem that the air filter box that attaches to the airbox was not with the biuke when we bought it last fall. What I need to know is what size jets do I need to put in the carbs now that I have decided to go with pods? What other considerations do I need to cover? I do not want to change the exhaust if I do not have to. Are the foam filters with the "flexible wire core" ok, or do I need to get the fancy chrome topped ones? Any other suggestions and or information regarding what to watch for or to expect with this, I hope, realatively easy and painless mod. Where does one get jets for these carbs? Dennis Kirk? JC Whitney? Z1enterprises? Thank you ahead of time for any and all information you have.

I will be posting pics soon, I have to do some cleaning on the bikes first.

What did the filter instructions say? The UNI's I put on my 75' 400 said it didn't need rejetting. I'm not so sure about that, it seems to run better with the airflow restricted (thin strip of flashing across the throat).

If you had to restrict the air flow after you put on pods to make it run right, it must have been running lean because of extra air, and would have needed larger jets, and or adjusting the needle. I think the rule of thumb is to go up 1 or 2 jet sizes for pods, and that much again for a mod on top of that, like a pipe.
I'll let a carb guru chime in to clarify/correct if need be

We have gurus...and chimes?

You might be a guru if: People call you by initials like WG!

No offense to y'all...just funnin' ya ;)

I was running stock jetting with a 4>1 pipe but had to re-jet when K&N pods were added to the mix.
As was said here, pods will most likely need rejet to run well.
WG helped me sort mine out last summer...thanks, she's running great now!

normally you need to go up 2 jet sizes for each mod.
Example; pod filters 2
exhaust mod 2

and dont for get 1 pilot jet size for every 3 main jet sizes increase

Let the engine tell you what it wants read the plugs and adjust accordingly

I am also very acive on another tech forum; the Honda SOHC forums. There was an interesting thread on there tthat you might find worth the read:

I currently have the UNI pod filters on my CB750, which is just now getting ready to hit the road, and another set ready to go on my KZ when I get it running (as the stock airbox is trash), so we'll see how they go.
