Hey everyone, Im swapping up to 28mm carbs on my 810 project, My question is, can I make my intake boots larger to accept the larger carbs? something like "boring" out the intake boots? can this be done to rubber easily? or should I just get the larger boots?(for $70)
Any imput would be appreciated. thanks

I have a set of J model carb holders that I got from Z1, and I'm pretty sure I paid ~$40 for a set of four.
You have to elongate the bolt holes to make them fit though.

I checked and they are now $48.80, still a lot cheaper than $70 though.

The VM29 and VM28 OD is actually smaller than the OD on a VM26. All fit the same intake manifolds. You can't enlarge an intake manifold. You need to buy new ones. The mount holes are slightly different width and will need to be elongated.

I guess I was figuring shipping and the swap to CAD$ for the $70 figure
So does anyone know the OD for a 28? I need to see if its "close enough" to the OD of the 24s to see if I can modify my intake boots. thanks

I enlarged the boots on the air box side of the carbs by warming them with a torch and forcing them down over the neck of a beer bottle. This softened the boot and with a larger carb size made it alot easier to install them. Not sure if this will wirk for the engine side.
