Is there a way of knowing what size carb you have >? Are they marked on them somewhere ? I dont see it anywhere ? Also I would like to put my 77 650 carbs on my 82 750 is this possible ?? Hey thanks ,, Kinda new to the KZ,, Shoe

The carburetors are measured by the ID of the side that fits into the intake manifolds. Your 650 carbs are likely VM24; that is, round slide 24mm carburetors made by Mikuni while the 82 KZ750 originally came with constant velocity 34mm carbs; either Keihin or Mikuni as both types were used on various 750 models. I measured some a while back and of course didn't note what I measured but what I found was a set of 24mm carbs and a set of 26mm did not measure as exactly 24 or 26mm anywhere. Actually the 24mm measured 26mm if I remember right and the 26s measured 27mm. The 26mm was 1mm bigger on the ID on the engine side of the carbs, but 3mm bigger on the OD. That's why anyone trying to put 26 or bigger carbs on a KZ650 will quickly find out they don't fit.(Not easily anyway.)
The 24s can be spotted easily by the ribs that the 26 and 28 do not have.

So If I wanted to stay with a mechanical carb what size would I use if the 750 had CV34 on it ?? Or will the 34's work just fine ? Thanks Shoe

The VM24 will be just under 25mm ID. The VM26 will be 26.7mm and the VM28 will be 28.7mm ID respectively. The OD on the VM is about 3 mm less than either. The OD on the VM28 is SLIGHTLY smaller than the 26 which has a very thick wall at that point.

To answer your question, the 34mm CV carbs will work fine if jetted/tuned properly for the bike. The VM24/VM26 OR VM28 Mikuni round slides will work fine if jetted/tuned properly for your bike.
