Can I put a '82 kz650 motor in my '79 kz650. If so, will there be any unexpected inconveniences I will have to look forward to?

23 views and no replies.....Anyway, start by doing some careful measurments of both engines (assuming you have both) if not then unless you can find someone who's done it, give up. IF you have both, measure up the mounting points and compare.. it should be straight forward to determine if it's gonna be a drop-in or you have some fab work ie motor mounts to do. good luck.

Should be a direct bolt in. The 82 will have electronic ignition where the 79 will have points. I don't know if the charging components will be the same. You should be able to use the ignition system and charging system components from the 79 engine on the 82 engine if you don't want to uprade.

Let us know what happens.

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought it would probably just drop in. I'll post picures and what not when it's done.
