Hello all -

I am looking to sell some of my father's old KZ900 stuff and need help identifying some the model and details of a cylinder head. If a authoratative sources exists, please direct me there.
I think it's a 1976 KZ900 4-cylinder (4-stroke?) but someone saw it and said something about a MKII, How does that affect the value? Is $600 a good starting point? Appreciate any help offered.

Head shown is the “J” model. Built after 1981. It’s the 1000cc or .998. It has been modified to accept the 15 tooth crank, 30 tooth cam gear with a122 link cam chain. Hopefully you have the 4- four bolt caps that hold the cams. They will have number in circles 1,2,3,4. Looks to have had a valve cut AKA valve job. Without the caps there’s not much value. With them your are in the ballpark for value. Heads used go for around $350- $450

That is a 1000J / GPZ1100 head ( not 1100A unitrack ).
They will fit the earlier engines with a top idler conversion ( which it has ) and measures to compensate for the compression drop.
They are not uncommon and value is minimal if its original cam caps are missing and if complete they can be had for around an average of $250 ish upwards depending on other factors and condition.
I just bought a real nice one complete with buckets, shims and cam cover etc for £250 GBP from a dealer.

Looking a little closer. I see a plug in the head where the tach cable would install. From what know the only J bike that used cable tach was the ‘81-‘82 CSR.

EDIT, the rusty colored round item laying in the head it the ignition advancer. There should be “TEC” stamped on it with a number. The number will identify the bike it can be used on. They are a $45-$85 value

FYI. Cam caps needed for a complete head, they need to original to the head. Stock photo pulled off the net.

Can't say for sure, but considering how clean it is, most likely that head has been serviced, which should increase it's value a fair bit.

Circled are top chamber covers and bottom float Bowles for Mikuni SC carbs. Could be either 26mm or 28mm. Quicker to pull stock photo from the internet
