Picked up an 82' kz440 for cheap about a month ago and just had the carbs sinked up fixed a vacuum leak. runs great now with 20900 miles on the odo.. i'm thinking about getting pod flters and an exhaust just wanted to ask for advice beforehand in here. And also what jet kits and exhausts if any are best.

This question has been asked and answered A LOT. Search the forums and you'll find some of the other discussions.

But the short version is unless you are very, very experienced in carb tuning, the stock CV carbs will never run properly with pods.

I'm in good relations with a nearby shop that specializes on older carberated bikes and I feel fairly confident about their carb tuning ability. So if I was to continue with this, what jet kits would you guys recommend using because I've seen some people say either 650 or 750 jet kit works I cant recall, but would that be better than trying to find a 440 kit? And does anyone know if the kz440 ltd has removable-ish baffles (was thinking about drilling them out) or if I should just get a whole new system.

Pulling the baffles on a 440 is not fun.
They are welded in.
Just get a new system.

Another question.. If i go with just an exhaust, would rejetting be necessary or just a tune?

That depends on the exhaust system and how much back pressure it has, how well it scavenges, and such. You may need only to raise the needles with washers, or maybe just a slightly bigger main jet. I don’t think Dynojet makes kits for the 440 any more, so I reckon you will be buying individual jets from Jets R Us or some similar company. I would trust only the carb manufacturer’s parts (Mikuni or Keihin, I don’t remember which), Dynojet, Jets R Us, or Keyster. Many of the others are junk and would drive you mad trying to get them tuned. If you really want to do this, and you trust the local shop, why not just let them do it?

I talked with the shop and was told to order the parts and he'll install (its an older british guy so I'm guessing it's easier for him if I just get the parts?). As for the exhaust, not sure about it yet been looking, just not sure what I want to go with yet.

Whatever you do, don't buy those junk china pods that cost next to nothing.  Get real K&N.  They are the gold standard in pods.
