Hello KZriders !  Just got these new Vesrah cam end plugs and noticed the backs have a brown reflective "residue" inside.  They were listed as new.  Hmm.
Is this how they should look inside ?

The rubber appears new so I would say the residue you can see is from the moulding and bonding of the rubber and inner support.
If there was any evidence of oil or use on the outside faces of the rubber I would have doubts.

Thank you Warren. No sign of oil.  I'll plan pick out all the brown moulding/bonding on the installation day.

2Thumbs down Vesrah.
I would've hoped for some better quality than that.

I would agree with Warren, it is also not uncommon for raw steel parts to have a corrosion inhibitor applied so they don't start to rust in storage

It's been fitted inside out. Common thing to do to stop them being pushed out.
The lip around the edge would fit on the inside.

I just installed the Vesrah cam end plugs on the Turd along with a new cam cover gasket from Z1parts.

I put a bead of 3M adhesive on the bottom of the end plugs and installed the cam cover without the gasket and let it set overnight and the next morning I installed the gasket dry, the 3M adhesive is some good stuff much better than rtv. I did put a small dab of rtv where the plugs meet the head surface. No leaks so far.

Good to know re: 3M  weatherstrip - gasket adhesives for the ends.  Seems, there are several good options recently from the handy Forum folks re: Cam ends and the gasket install methods.   Thanks all.

Yes, my kz is weeping somewhat (the PO, not me), but not enough to open things up yet.  Gonna continue to enjoy the ride for the summer and add it to the list of repairs, mods, improvements for later - nothing major or urgent so far.   We'll also plan to add new tires to the list.. so far , so good.  yes,,I know..

Enjoying the new tinted mid size windshield and the low seat.
