I would think that after checking the vent there is not much else left to check.
Running the petcock with the fuel tank cap off is another way of verifying the cap vent.

You've pretty much narrowed the culprit down to the petcock.
As TexasKZ mentioned there may be something stuck inside.

Thanks. I was a little shocked because the petcock was changed a little before the accident. Not even 6 months ago, and it was working fine. The bike tank area wasnt damaged at all, and the petcock wasnt touched. but i guess all things are possible. I just cant see how it would have stopped working.

In your opinion, is there anyting in the carbs that could have caused allllll of them to stop delivering fuel, as a result of the impact when the bike fell on the engine guards - it was a pretty hard fall.

Sounds like you have narrowed it down to the petcock. It not supplying enough fuel to support the volume needed to continue to allow the bike to run. Something was dislodged inside the tank or the impact from the wreck broke something in the petcock.

Its a 1978 and its blue. For some reason, this site wont let me post pics. It says "you do not have permissions to view this page."

Looks a pretty solid bike, when you have attached your picture click "insert all" for it to show full size (wait for the green text to appear) I have fixed this one

Thank you for the info. I had been meaning to join this site since I got the bike but never got around to it. With my new problem I figured it was the perfect time.

Had some time to work on the bike today. Put the new pingel petcock on and took the bike out. Got two miles and it died. Friend picked me up again. Looked at the spark plugs and they are fine.

The bike only seems to idle when the choke is on. So, carbs?

did you ever check the voltage?

As far as electrical.
fire the bike up and put a volt meter on the battery terminals.
note voltage

raise rpm to 3000
note voltage

raise rpm to 5000
note voltage

voltage should stay from 13-14.6

Yes. Sorry, I forgot to say. The voltage all checks out fine and the charging system works properly. The problem I think is in the carbs. . I hope nothing in the carb body was damaged even though the bike fell on the engine guards.
