If i were to use oversized rings would i need to track down oversized pistons?

This is for 1mm over rings (or aproxmatly .040" over)

Also what do i tell a machine shop when i go to get the block bored/honed? will they know what size to go up to if i just tell them 1mm over stock? Thanks guys!

Yes, you will need to use pistons that match the rings in sizing.

Most machine shops will want at least one (if not all) of the pistons and rings you plan on using so they can bore your cylinders to match the pistons/rings.

Hopefully Jay from APE will run across this thread to tell exactely how they do it there and what parts are normally required from a customer.

1mm oversize is .040" oversize, and on most KZ motors that's the maximum oversize piston available.

bad idea to use over size rings on std piston. but if you do you file the end gap until you have about .035~.040 when installed into cylinder. put it on the piston , build the engine and wait til it blows up.

Weisco pistons are a good replacement. get the cylinders to the machine shop have them clean up the bores before measuring. sometimes taper and barrel shape is deep. order pistons after "clean measurement" then you are assured to have straight cylinders and can set final piston to cylinder clearance and ring end gaps
