Working on a cop bike with 82 J engine. It seems to have shim over bucket arrangement. Are the shims 29.5mm as on older bikes? Will the Kaw shim tool work to depress the buckets? What are the clearance min-max (hopefully in millimeters since my feeler gauges are in millimeters). And please confirm if the shims are the same as the 73-80 900/1000. Thanks!

WG-

If it's got 29.5mm shims then someone bored out the head to accept Suzuki buckets.
AFAIK the OEM shim tool fits both. I have one, just haven't got to using it because
the more I dig the more I find to fix and the heads are still sittin ;-)

Will it fit with the 29.5mm buckets? Looking at the tool, it looks like it will. Give it a try.

Forgot...clearance is the same...0.05 - 0.15 mm
25.4mm/inch
so 0.002 - 0.006 inch
no personal opinion formed yet but everyone i've corresponded or spoken with sez go with 0.006
