Hi All, I am a new member. I have a 77 KZ650B1 and a 76 KZ900LTD. I also have arthritis and have been searching for assistance for my painful hands. I have had 2 bikes with hydralic clutches and loved them. I was searching for a system for the 900. But e-bay has a listing for a system that looks like it only extends the arm on the clutch activator drum from 2 inches to 3. I understand the principal but at $80+ it seems a little steep and I was wondering if anyone had one of these systems . Appreciate all help I can get.

I have seen two systems to replace the stock pull system. I actually have had the pleasure of riding one with a replaced hydraulic system. I felt it took the same pull only smoother.(and expensive!)

The longer lever makes sense and is much less. I would replace my cable too. It is amazing how much difference a new cable will make. A complete lube of the inside parts can help as well.

Just for what it's worth...During my recent top end rebuild, I took the opportunity to take the clutch apart. I replaced the plain OEM "pusher" (the disk thingy that applies the force to the back side of the clutch assembly) with one of pushers with roller bearings in it. The clutch action is now very smooth and has a much more "liquid" feel to it.

Just something to consider? $25 rather than $250.

Get the needle bearing clutch pusher and lube up the cables. Easy as pie.

Now this is interesting. Anyone have pics of this part?

Hmm... had a similar clutch puller on a dirt bike one time .
Made it super easy, without it was hard as a rock!

Not that the clutches on my bikes are too tough to handle but i might try one of these and see if there is an improvment:silly:

That looks like a good investment, especially with heavy duty springs..... lol, Ill have to put it on the "Wanted" list

Clutch springs are what return the plates to where they contact after expanding the plates apart. The use of heavy duty clutch springs may provide a bit more hold for keeping the plates from slipping, increase the amount of pull on the lever A LOT. I like to use slightly tired clutch springs as they provide a MUCH easier pull. If the clutch springs are tired but still in spec, they hold the plates just fine. Everyone gets excited about "HEAVY DUTY" this and that and I, for one, am certainly less than enthused about heavy duty clutch springs used when not needed due to the heavy pull. I have HD springs on one of my bikes and older and somewhat tired springs on the other and MUCH rather use the clutch with the tired springs.

My clutch was slipping bad so I figured it was a good time to put in the extra plate kit with HD springs by APE instead of replacing a few stock parts, and then want/need a kit later on for drag racing. It does pull a lot harder, but its no big deal for me.

Glad you guys are discussing this topic. My clutch is still ok, but I picked up a Barnett "extra plate" kit with heavy duty springs awhile ago for installation at a future date. Every time my hand cramps up after alot of shifting I think...I wonder what it'll feel like with heavy duty springs in there?
Maybe I'll take George's advice and reinstall my "old" springs with the kit OR should I get OEM springs?
Any thoughts?
