can some one tell me this. why is there plastic plugs under the cylinder assembly (within the cylinder assembly itself)?

are they needed or not?

Not sure but I think they dampen vibration

If I recall correctly I think the part you are referring to is there to reduce wind noise. Without them, at speed, the wind tends to howl through the fins.

I actually think they're there to dampen vibration between the fins and to prevent their cracking.

i always thought it was kawasakis way of being nice and making it easier to relocate studs,another theory blown to he!! goodluck,happy wrenching!

Actually,I think it's a combination of what both Mark and Roland mentioned.They're there to dampen vibration,and I've heard that without them,You can get some pretty serious reverberation sounds...picture the "TING" of a chopsaw with a dull blade,if You will..Lord knows...I heard THAT sound today!
I don't think it's a common thing,but there ARE there from factory,so Kawasaki must have had some issues with reverberation.
