Replaced my clutch cable because it was stretching, and I had to make a big adjustment at the clutch lever so I could shift.
Ordered a new cable from Jeff at Z1, and it came in about 4 days.
Heres how bad my old cable was:

Make sure not to damage the plastic "bushing", if so equipped, that slips over the barrel end on the cable (don't ask  ). And for sure grease the barrel/bushing before you install it so it pivots properly in the lever.

You caught it just in time. I did not once, and had to call my wife to dig around in the shed, find my spare, and bring it to me. It was 11 PM, and she was in her pajamas, but she did me the favor without complaining much.

Yep, I messed around and waited until mine broke:blush:and had to do a running start and slap into gear:(then ride figure 8's in a parking lot (conveniently placed for such an emergency);)in a parking lot until traffic would allow me to merge.

I broke mine on the Cherahola Skyway, and had to ride all the way back to Robinsville with no clutch. What a pain.
When I got back home I ordered 2 cables, so I can carry a spare in case it happens again.

A friend of mine told me years ago ,
When you are buying Christmas gifts ,
Why not something for your bike ,
ALL NEW CABLES ,
Then you have something to do while its to cold to ride.
They NEVER break in 1 season ,and you have lots of spares.
Has worked for me for years. B)

Hey gang-Busted two new clutch cables last riding season. Of course they happened when I was at the other end of town. Luckily I know all of the back roads where rolling stops were done without problems.

It turns out that the clutch cable adjuster guide that screws into the clutch lever assembly had a sharp edge that was nicking the cable. A quick clean up with a metal file took care of the problem.

If you are heading out for a long highway run, tie wrap an extra clutch and throttle cable into place. If one breaks you already have the replacement set into place and it is much easier than trying to fish it through to its correct location in the dark.
