As I have a spare engine and hope to acquire more,I was wondering what people do to hold the engine while working on it. Is there a way to build an engine stand simular to what is used for automotive engines or is all this useless due to the way the cases split? I no longer wish to work on things on my hands and knees as I did when younger.

I have two different style stand mounts that allow you to turn over the engine and split the cases on the stand. Maybe I can get some pics this weekend if it's not so cold out.

This probably sounds a bit crazy, but I just got done putting a 1015 engine together on top of a very sturdy kids' play table - I even used some kid sized chairs/stools to sit on.

OK, so why do I mention this:huh:

Because having a table to do the assembly on keeps everything much cleaner than having stuff on the floor, and because a low table allows good access for torquing studs/bolts, and, since the engines aren't all that big or heavy, it's ok to move them on and off a low table. By using kids furniture I finished the assembly without a back pain, and all the time I thought I was playing :P

I can't see a reason to invest the time/money/effort to develop a special stand.

I would like to see them. As I do blacksmithing and welding, building something is no problem. I just can't see rolling an engine around on a table. It seems like something might break off.

I like the idea of being able to roll it around and maybe out of the way while waiting for parts etc.

when using this adapter I can split the cases on Z1/KZ900-1000 engines. The adapter holds the upper half of the case. I have another style that does the same thing, just didn't find it to get pics yet
