Well... If you have ever bought a new cylinder head and have NO clue as to whether the valve clearances are any good after you took it apart, cleaned it up, and then put it together again...

The 77-80 KZ1000 Kawasaki Motorcycle Service Manual has a neat chart that tells you which shim to use when reassembling after you have measured the valve stem length. I spent a few minutes typing the darn thing into a MSWord file and put it in the non-model specific Filebase area.

The reason I found this darn thing in the manual I already owned is that azchili pointed it out to me. Good catch!!! Thanks.

I bought a cylinder head some time ago from a friend (Brian Connell kzmoney99 on ebay) and it was in great shape except for a broken exhaust stud. The vavles look about as nice as I have seen on a used head. I marked the shims when I disassembled it and will check later today maybe or tomorrow to compare against the stem lenghts I measured to see if the head was shimmed proper before removing it from the donor bike. Will report on what I find but I will reassemble with the shims suggested in the chart.
