Unfortunately we don’t have any covered bridges like in Madison County and very few cool steel girder bridges but I thought you might like this.

Ok, it doesn’t look like much but when built the “Jarla Banke bridge” was obviously a big deal. I was approx. 150 meters long and was what we today would call a gang way made of lumber logs, but it spanned a swamp and was a major contribution to the current road network and the road where the bridge was located was used up until the sixties.

The guy that built it, a land owner and chief was as a matter of fact so proud of it so erected not one but two stones to commemorate it. The stones carry the same inscriptions and translates into:
"Jarlabanke had these stones made after himself while he was alive. He made this bridge for his soul. He alone owned all of Täby".[

When it was built?

Ca 1080, just a couple of years after Leif Ericson found Vinland.

Jarl was not a very modest man and you can read about him on Wikipedia:

Sorry for the FZ in the picture, but both my Gpz are currently INOP.

Thanks Brgds , All bridges and bikes are Välkommen here, great history too!
Leif Ericson sure got around.
All the really old history from my area was washed away at the end of the last Ice Age, but it left us with an abundant river system and years later a bunch of good river roads B)

It has been a record breaking month for rain around here , the farmers normally have all the corn and soy planted by now but this year it is only around 20% and more rain coming :pinch:
This is a bridge over a back water of the Illinois river and it is normally a stagnant pond but right now it has a fast current.

Near LaSalle IL

Gillespie Bridge built in 1927, Old Highway 80, Southern Arizona.
And a great motorcycle ride to get down there!

Big bridge crossing the Illinois River in Ottawa Il with a smaller bridge crossing the Fox River in the back ground, we get a lot of water through here at times.

Nice pics. The heat is off and riding season is just starting. Problem is it's only down here. Anywhere else it's too cold to ride. Have a safe winter.
